Haulage firm completes first ever UK delivery with extra high trailer

Published: 27/01/2012

Transport and distribution firm Eddie Stobart has successfully completed the first-ever UK haulage delivery using the special new high-volume Envirotrailer – a change that could affect fuel card users.

These new 13.6 metre-long trailers were introduced as part of a ten-year trial of semi-trailers announced by the Department for Transport last year, in a move designed to boost the industry.

The new trailers allow operators to carry higher volumes of goods thus improving the economy of fleet businesses and working alongside fuel cards to reduce haulage costs.

Eddie Stobart is the first firm to successfully complete a delivery under the scheme, with the firm utilising a 15.65 metre trailer with two steering rear axles.

Stobart Group chief operating officer William Stobart welcomed the trial noting that “the industry as a whole is set to benefit from the opportunities and environmental advantages they bring”.
