Fuel cards offer solution for long commute workers

Published: 17/01/2012

With the cost of fuel an ongoing concern for drivers in the UK, those workers required to commute on a daily basis could save money with a BP Fuel Card.

Research conducted by Continental Tyres recently revealed the startling amount of time UK drivers spend stuck in traffic.

According to research conducted by the manufacturer, an average journey of 28 miles to work takes around 41 minutes.

Yet of this 41-minute journey, on average 12 minutes is lost everyday in traffic jams and delays, which equates to around 5.5 working days lost each year.

More importantly, 5.5 days a year equates to a significant amount of fuel consumed, often without moving at all.

Despite these figures, Continental Tyres head of safety Tim Bailey admitted that the amount of time and fuel lost in traffic is likely to maintain its current level.

"People are clearly concerned about congestion and rising fuel costs, but using the car remains the preferred option for most," he said.

With an increasing number of people in the UK forced into longer commutes to work, these numbers make for concerning reading and highlight the potential cost savings and benefits that most drivers could enjoy from a using a BP Fuel Card.

According to the study of 2,000 motorists conducted by Continental, around 63 per cent of workers will use their car on at least four of five days in a working week, meaning fuel consumption in traffic and beyond is unavoidable.

All of which points to the use of fuel cards like the BP PLUS card, as an option that many regular commuters should seriously consider.

After all, the BP PLUS fuel card will give drivers access to over 3,000 BP, Total and Texaco petrol sites spread across the UK.

Traffic jams could also provide fuel card users with an opportunity to access directions to their nearest BP station via satnav guidance, which can be downloaded from the Be Fuelcards website.

With drivers facing continued traffic and commuter problems in the near future, a BP fuel card may be the best option.
